Boys Only

Title: Boys Only
Fandom: Kingdom Hearts
Pairing: Riku/Sora
Rating: Pretty much PG, I think.

Notes: This story isn't beta'd because I'm trying my hand at "raw writing", as ! call it. basically, I write the story on paper, and then edit/revise as I type it up, and that's it. No sending it to someone to review first, no looking it over again and again. Just creation, one revision, then presentation. I hope that by doing this I can improve overall as a writer. Plus, it's kinda fun, and y'all get to read more of my works.

With that said, I hope that my first foray into KH fanfic is enjoyable. :)

“Sora!” Kairi called, cupping her hands to her mouth to carry her voice farther. “Riku!”

But there was no answer, save the soft thunder of the sea as waves crashed down onto the beach. “Riku! Sora!” she yelled again, almost pleadingly. Where had her friends run off to?

She had already checked the grove of palm trees that the boys sometimes climbed as they raced to see who could collect the most coconuts. They weren’t at the docks, either, or the mini-island where Riku and Sora liked to mock-swordfight. Their absence baffled Kairi, who was so used to being able to hear their laughter from virtually anywhere on the island. The silence made a strange knot tighten in her chest, and she couldn’t help but feel a slight sense of dread. Were her friends alright? Was this feeling a sign of danger?

There was one place left to look, but why the boys would be there, Kairi didn’t know. There was a cave on the other side of the island that they all went to sometimes, but they had been warned before to never enter. It was too dangerous, people said. Kairi had avoided the cave in her search for that very reason, but now it looked like she had no choice.

Moments later, she stood at the mouth of the cave, praying that her friends were safe. Her fears dissolved, however, when she heard a familiar giggling coming from inside. Sora, she thought, and smiled in relief. Riku must be in there, too. Eager to be reunited with her friends, Kairi took a step forward, but paused when she heard a strange noise. It was low, and Kairi had to strain to hear it, but…there it was again! It was almost like water lightly slapping against a rock, followed by a moan. Curious, she creeped forward, trying hard to not make a sound. When she rounded the corner, though, a small gasp escaped her lips.

Riku and Sora were there, but they were doing something that Kairi didn’t quite understand. Their shirts were resting on a nearby rock, and Riku had Sora’s arms pinned against one of the walls of the cave. His face was close to Sora’s, and it was tilted ever so slightly to the side as it moved back and forth. The strange sounds, Kairi realized, were coming from them

They’re kissing! Kairi clamped her hands over her mouth and backed out of the cave. There was a soft giggle behind her as she moved, and she almost froze before realizing that the boys had never known she was there. With that knowledge, she slowed her pace, desperate to get out of the cave but not wanting her friends to know what she had just witnessed. It seemed like minutes before she was finally out of the cavern, and then she ran across the sand, trying to get as far away as possible. What had. just happened, she didn’t understand, but she knew deep inside that she had stumbled into something secret, something she wasn’t supposed to know.

Months later, even as events unfolded before her, events that would changer her life and the lives of her friends, she would still feel the shame, the guilt of having invaded something so personal that Riku and Sora had been forced to hide in a cave to share it. And in the years to come, she would never tell them, even as she saw the looks that passed between then, and the shared heart that twinkled in their eyes. For even though she loved them both, their love for each other became something else entirely. It was a love that she would never have, and only after she embraced her destiny as a Princess of Heart would she be able to place a name to it, a label she had learned from others in her youth.

It was a love that was Boys Only.
